On Tuesday 8th of September 2009 Federal Parliament Iftar Dinner was held at the Great Hall, in the Federal Parliament House. The dinner was co-organised by Federal MPs Maria Vamvakinou, Federal Member for Calwell, Labour Party, VIC and Susan Ley, Federal Member for Farrer,Liberal Party, Shadow Minister for Justice and Customs, NSW with logistic support provided by the Bluestar Intercultural Centre and AIS.
With a spirit of sharing common values that unite Australians from all cultural and faith backgrounds this Federal Parliament Iftar Dinner celebrated diversity with the key representatives of various sectors across Federal. Invited guests included Parliamentarians, Senators, Journalists, Ambassadors, Senior Members of Academia and Multi-faith Community Leaders. Muslims believe that Ramadan Iftar Dinners bring peace and prosperity upon the members of Society. The objective of this Iftar Dinner program was to break bread together for the future of humanity and to enhance social cohesion, security and social harmony in this wonderful nation of ours. We strongly believe that these relationships will be of mutual benefits as Members and Senators will be able to draw access to the perspectives of respected Muslim leaders when required and Muslim leaders will be able to communicate with the mainstream Muslim society using logical comments that are reflective of Islamic teachers, rather than producing radical remarks that have no grounds or references in Islam. We believe that by synergizing, together we will be able to set the foundations for a truly harmonious, multi-faith/multicultural nation that exemplifies the term “pluralistic society”. The organisers hope this celebration of diversity will continue to enhance and deepen the relationship between Australian Muslims and members of the wider community |
