Bluestar Intercultural Centre hosted Süleyman Kamçi, Governor of Gaziantep, Hüseyin Tanriverdi MP, AKP Deputy General Secretary, Ahmet Uzer MP, Mehmet İhsan Tahmazoğlu, Mayor of Şahinbey, Cahit Nakiboglu, the Chairman of Gaziantep Organized Industrial Zone (GOSB), Prof. Dr. Adnan Kısa, Vice Chancellor of Zirve university, Celalettin Demireli; GAPGİAD General Secretary and some businessmen from Gaziantep, Turkey.
The Executive Director of Bluestar Interfaith Cultural Centre paid a visit to the Chief Police Officer of ACT Policing, Roman Quaedvlieg on the 7th of December 2010.
Also present at the meeting was Mr Mehmet Saral, one of the directors of BIC. In the meeting which lasted over an hour, BIC introduced the aims and objectives of the centre which include breaking barriers between the different communities and enhancing inter-cultural relations amongst the diverse communities within Australia. BIC expressed its heartfelt appreciation to the police for co-organizing the recent Eid-ul-Fitr Festival which drew more than four thousand people. BIC believed that this initiative should be continued as it will assist in strengthening the Australian social fabric.
Mr Quaedvlieg expressed his gratitude to the BIC directors for their visit. He noted that individuals within the Muslim community especially in ACT hail from professional backgrounds and are law abiding citizens. He assured that the ACT police will continue with the Eid-ul-Fitr festival in the near future and will embark on programs to reach out to the Muslim community. BIC and the ACT police explored ways to enhance working relationship between the two organizations. At the end of the fruitful discussion, BIC presented Mr Quaedvlig with a small gift as a mark of BIC’s gratitude for his efforts to enhance inter-cultural relations in Australia.
On 14 November 2010, Bluestar Intercultural Foundation had the great pleasure of hosting Dr Anwar Ibrahim, the former Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia. Dr Ibrahim had joined some local dignitaries including religious, academic and public service personalities for dinner at their centre.
On the 20rd of October 2010, Abdul Celil Gelim, chairman of Bluestar Intercultural Center (BIC) and Orhan Cicek, executive adviser of BIC paid a courtesy call on the US Ambassador to Australia, Ambassador Jeffrey L Bleich. BIC visited the Ambassador to personally thank him for attending BIC's Inaugural Nation's Gathering Iftar Dinner which took place on the 8th of September 2010. During the visit, BIC representatives and the ambassador discussed various ways in which the two sides can work together. After the discussions, the chairman of BIC presented the ambassador with a small gift to express BIC's appreciation for his continued support for the BIC.
