On the 27th of February 2010, Bluestar Intercultural Centre hosted a conference with the theme, Nature of Interfaith Dialogue in the Modern World at the The Haydon Allen Lecture Theatre, Australian National University.
The conference was attended by around 70 people. After Master of Ceremonies, Ms Diana Rahman, from the Australian Muslim Voice program made an introduction, she introduced the Bluestar Intercultural Centre's Executive Director, Mr Abdul Celil Gelim, to make a welcoming speech. Mr Gelim spoke about the importance of interfaith dialogue and explained that this is something the prophet of Islam, Muhammad, advised Muslims to do.
Following this, Mr Mehmet Ozalp, Executive Director of the newly formed Islamic Science & Research Academy (ISRA), spoke on the theme from a Muslim perspective. He said, “Dialogue for Muslims have started from the time of Prophet of Islam, Muhammad, and has continued until today. He also quoted a verse in the Quran which talks about mankind being created from a single male and female, into different nations and tribes in order to get to know one another, not to despise each other.
Then Ms Kimberly Davis, Director of the Women's leg of the Australian Catholic Conference, spoke on the theme from a Catholic perspective. Ms Davis talked about Nostra Aetate and how it kick started dialogue in the Catholic tradition. She talked about the 4 types of Dialogue, namely, The dialogue of everyday life, the dialogue of action, the dialogue of theological exchange and the dialogue of religious experience. She then went on to talk about her recent attendance on the Study Tour to Turkey, which was organised by Affinity Intercultural Foundation, sister organisation of Bluestar in Sydney.
All in all it was a very fruitful dialogue between two of the World's largest faith traditions in Islam and Christianity.

1. A month of worship and the display of beauty. A time when sharing is of utmost importance. Muslims fast provide alms, donations and offerings and evaluate the reason for their existence and preparation for their eternal life.
